When to put Temptation and Desire on Hold

December 30th 2007

Sometimes when your young and dumb you make bad decisions…especially sexually. But, when your young, dumb, and working as a coach at a high school you can’t make those same silly mistakes.

At my old high school one of the football/track coaches messed around with a senior and got her pregnant. Then, he and his girlfriend paid for the girl to have an abortion. I don’t know what to say except for “It’s a wrap”…if it is all true. I’m going to reserve judgment until everything comes out and after he goes to trial but when you are working with students you can’t let it get to this level. Even if the girl (highschooler) was throwing herself at him, and 1 day away from 18, you still can’t go there.

A former Las Vegas High School track coach impregnated one of his team members and then helped her get an abortion, Las Vegas police allege….

Craig worked as a substitute teacher for the Clark County School District from May 2003 to May 2007. He also was a track coach at Las Vegas High School from February to May 2006. His arrest report said that he was an assistant track coach for boys and girls at the school.

Police have recovered hundreds of pages of electronic correspondence between Craig and the then-17-year-old senior from a computer that the girl used. They subpoenaed Craig’s MSN hotmail subscriber information. Some of the messages indicated that Craig feared discovery and knew that the relationship could have criminal consequences, police said.

In one message, Craig talked about the possibility of facing jail time and losing his job, police said.

In another message, sent to the teen on May 26, 2006, Craig wrote, “You forget although track is over your still in school … which means if I get caught at your house … that is MY ASS,” according to his arrest report.

He then told the girl that he was willing to meet her at night because it was less risky, the report said. He also reminded her to keep their relationship on the “DL,” down low, the police report said.

The former Las Vegas High student told police that she and Craig first had sex in March 2006 in her parents’ home, according to Craig’s arrest report. Medical records obtained by police through an Oct. 15 grand jury subpoena showed the victim had an abortion on June 22, 2006…..

When police talked to the former student, she said Craig and Riddle accompanied her to an abortion clinic.

She said that “Deanna paid approximately $500 cash for the abortion and obtained the paperwork from the clinic,” Detective Paul Slaninka wrote in the police report.

Police interviewed Riddle in May.

“I asked Deanna if she drove (the teen) and Kenneth Craig to an abortion clinic and Deanna stated that she drove her to a doctor’s office and was unaware if it was an abortion clinic,” Slaninka wrote in the report.

“She also stated that she gave Kenneth Craig money on numerous occasions and is unaware if he used those monies to pay for an abortion.”

Electronic correspondence between Craig and the track team member make several references to her pregnancy and the abortion, according to the arrest report. Craig urged the student to save money because “we still have to go to the clinic in a couple of weeks,” according to the police report.

Like I said…if this is all true, it is a wrap for him and they will probably give him as much time as allowed by law. Paying for the abortion is just icing on the cake to make this just a train wreck.

Finally got a Wii

December 26th 2007

This has been a crazy Christmas season because of looking for a Nintendo Wii. I wrote a few weeks back about how I was harassing employees at Walmart, Best Buy, and Gamestop trying to get a system and it finally worked out. 2 weeks before Christmas I went to Best Buy at about 7am and waited for an hour or so but I was able to get me two of them badboys. I think you already know what I did with the extra one…Ebay!

I almost, and I say almost, felt bad about getting two that morning. They had about 100 Wii’s and when I got to the store it was about 60-70 people. Everyone had already heard they had 100 so I’m feeling good (except that it was starting to snow a little). When they start giving out tickets at 8am there was only about 10 more people in line after me. Then they start giving out the tickets and they are coming my way. Since I’m at the end I notice that people are running from their cars seeing that they still had tickets left. After they went through the line people are still running to get in line because they must have had about 120-130 Wii’s that day. Knowing that the Best Buy worker wouldn’t remember that she gave me one already I go back to the end of the line and take the last ticket for a Wii, now I have 2.

Before and After a Wii

This lady walks up with a sad face, “Is that the last ticket for a Wii”, and of course the employee just told her to try back again next Sunday. I’m feeling real bad at that moment because I could see the pain on her face but someone else who took two gave her a ticket right before I was going to hand her my second ticket. I put in some work for these though. Going to Walmart at lunch everyday, calling these places all the time, and coming up short about 4 or 5 times (e.g. getting to Gamestop right when the last Wii they had is being bought).

But, if you haven’t played the game that comes with the system, Wii Sports, it is a little workout. I played the boxing for about 2 hours last night and I was sweating so bad after. It is the perfect gift for a kid who is putting on weight just sitting around the computer or playstation all day. It is such a different concept then just the typical controller, pushing buttons, you have to be interactive. You swing your arms, punch, swing the controller like a baseball bat, like a golf club, etc. My arms are sore and so is my lower back from last night. There is going to be some buff kids walking around in a couple of months after playing this everyday.

Anyway, I hope anyone who reads this is safe and blessed over the Holiday Season and enjoys the time with their family, friends, and away from work.

Dark Knight Trailer

December 18th 2007

I had to post this. Even though the last trailer I posted, Ironman, lasted for only about 2 weeks I figured that I would go ahead and put the new Batman on here. Batman vs. the Joker one more time..even though I don’t think it can beat the first Batman with Jack NicolasJack Nicholson as the Joker.

In other news I’m getting bombarded with spam in my comments…just saying it for the love of saying it.

How can my Falcons season ticket be worth less?

December 11th 2007

I don’t know let’s see…

1. I sign up for the Atlanta Falcons season ticket list about 2 years ago. The tickets were a hot item at that time and it was fun going to the games at the Georgia Dome. Truth is I’m not even a Falcons fan but I went to school in Atlanta and love NFL football. I finally get through this season and I purchase my Atlanta Falcons season tickets about 3 days before the entire Vick dogfighting case drops. At this time I’m not really worried about it because I could never imagine that 6 months later he would actually be facing 23 months in prison.

Love Fried Chicken?

2. Last night, Mr Home Depot himself, aka Arthur Blank, goes on Monday Night Football (were a primetime game would have went for double or triple face value last year and I sold mine for half price) and says that Mike Vick has a chance to play if he doesn’t get out of shape eating..as he likes to say “Fried Chicken and French Fries“. You know, the staple of all brothers. I’m not saying anything about his comments but in a metropolis of 5 million people, and about 40% of them black, I bet someone will not like that comment.

3. Today, Bobby Petrino, head coach of the Falcons who took the job in 2007, tells Mr Home Depot..”Peace up, A down” and resigns for the University of Arkansas job.

Bobby Petrino

So, let me tell you how I really feel:

I think that this entire Mike Vick drama has been the biggest waste of talent, resources, prestige, money, and personal freedom ever. I love the saying that “the truth is somewhere in the middle”. Vick probably gave his cousin the money for the house and went to a couple of dog fights. But, when you have 5 people (including a family member) ready to testify against you there is nothing to do but settle this case out of court. So, I don’t fully believe he did everything he pled guilty to but he is probably guilty of a good portion of the charges.

The real travistry in this is that Mike Vick can not stop making bad decisions. Why would you buy a house for your cousin if he deals in drugs? This case started as a drug sting but they stumbled (please feel free to stumble this post..no pun intended) upon the dogs. Mike Vick became the prize to the feds and were willing to drop all the more serious drug charges on everyone if they would rat on him in the dogfighting case. But, he should never have been in this situation because the house should never have been in his name.

That is just one of the dumb decisions he has made. Then, he goes and gets caught with weed in his system while awaiting sentencing. It is just like last year when he was caught at an airport with some “unknown” substance in a water bottle. The time he flipped off the Atlanta crowd for booing him. The time stood up Airtran airlines for a commercial shoot. Vick had a pattern of making bad choices that easily could have not been made.

This all gets me so mad because he brought it all on himself. I can’t cry racism, I can’t say it is the system trying to bring him down because he gave them all the ammo they needed. So, now I have to explain to my son why Vick (who he has 2 #7 jerseys) is not playing anymore. Men not being men and making bad decisions, that is the problem with the black community. It is why we have a generation of no fathers because of jail and fear of responsibility. It is why we have so many single mothers. Let me just quit there because I can go on about this forever….AHHHHH!!!! (whew, I feel a little better now)

(I added this 12/17) I think my words are a little strong there and let me rephrase a little. I think we have an issue with some black men between 18-30. I don’t know if enough of us are not maturing or what but we have young black men killing young black men. We are losing our young men to crimes that are petty and unnecessary. So many from this age group are leaving their kids behind to let Grandma, Grandpa, and Mom raise them.

Don’t get me wrong, racism and the effect of slavery still has long lasting issues but black men need to take the lead, and the responsibility to see that we overcome. But, when you have a large portion of the men not wanting to do what they have to until later in life the kids and the community suffer. My friend made me feel like I was beating on black men…that isn’t the case or I’m not trying to. I’m critical because I fall into this group (18-30 black male). We are letting everyone else be that father figure, which can be good or bad, when that positive, successful man should first be seen at home. And when I say success it has nothing to do with money or position but a success by being the leader and provider that is expected.

What I’m Following Today - 12/5

End of War
End of War

A New Day
A New Day

Sean Taylor Killer
Sean Taylor’s Killer is a 17 year old…What a waste for another young black man to take another’s life and spend the rest of his life in prison. Everyone lost from his actions. The community, Taylor’s family, his family, but hopefully someone learns from this mistake.

Hillary is getting dirty
Clinton is starting to play real dirty by spreading false rumors about Obama.

Sperm Donor Has to Pay Child Support

December 3rd 2007

The title is misleading just as the articles I saw on this story. OK, some doctor from New York gave his sperm to a female resident so she and her “partner” could have a child. Supposedly, the donor was more than a donor though. He sent cards and gifts to the child while he lived near him for a few years. Then, his mother left to Oregon and he only had contact with child a few years over the past decade. The only problem is that the donor had his name placed on the childs (well…he is 18 years old now so I should say young adult) birth certificate.

I think that if you are going to do something like that then let it be anonomous. No contact or anything. But, he tried to play the game both ways so it is his fault that they are coming back to him for child support. The birth certificate says he is the father so that is that.

article link

Even without genetic evidence, the man’s interactions with the child over the years had a patriarchal nature, said Jeffrey Herbst, an attorney who represents the mother in the lawsuit through a federal agreement called the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act.

“It’s still a parental relationship,” Herbst said.

According to the man’s testimony, in the late 1980s he was a physician at the same Nassau County hospital where the child’s mother was a resident. After learning the woman and her female partner wanted to have a baby, the man donated his sperm and the woman gave birth on July 26, 1989. Married at the time, the man agreed that he would not have any rights or benefits in raising the child, but the verbal agreement was never put in writing, according to court documents.

Still, he took the unusual step of allowing his name to appear on the child’s birth certificate because he thought it was in the child’s “best interests that he would have an identity when he grew older,” he said in court documents.

Before the mother, her partner, and the child moved to Oregon in 1993, the man had contact with the child, according to court documents. He also sent the child money, gifts, and cards and letters signed “Dad” or “Daddy,” and spoke to him by phone about seven times in the past 15 years.

Black KKK?

November 28th 2007

Yesterday, NFL free-safety, Sean Taylor, passed from the massive blood loss to a major artery stemming from a gun shot to the leg. The body has two major arteries in each leg around the groin area. If one of those arteries were severed or punctured (like a gun shot wound would do) you can lose all of your blood within 5 minutes. It is a shame that this happened to him. He was a father, a very young man, and an outstanding player.

Jason Whitlock, a Kansas City journalist, is a contributor for foxsports and espn. He wrote an article that is just on point dealing with what just happened. The Black KKK, as he calls it, is just the ignorance of the black on black violence that black men are inflicting upon themselves. I usually don’t post an entire article but I feel this is a must read…

Article Link

There’s a reason I call them the Black KKK. The pain, the fear and the destruction are all the same.

Someone who loved Sean Taylor is crying right now. The life they knew has been destroyed, an 18-month-old baby lost her father, and, if you’re a black man living in America, you’ve been reminded once again that your life is in constant jeopardy of violent death.

The Black KKK claimed another victim, a high-profile professional football player with a checkered past this time.

No, we don’t know for certain the circumstances surrounding Taylor’s death. I could very well be proven wrong for engaging in this sort of aggressive speculation. But it’s no different than if you saw a fat man fall to the ground clutching his chest. You’d assume a heart attack, and you’d know, no matter the cause, the man needed to lose weight.

Well, when shots are fired and a black man hits the pavement, there’s every statistical reason to believe another black man pulled the trigger. That’s not some negative, unfair stereotype. It’s a reality we’ve been living with, tolerating and rationalizing for far too long.

When the traditional, white KKK lynched, terrorized and intimidated black folks at a slower rate than its modern-day dark-skinned replacement, at least we had the good sense to be outraged and in no mood to contemplate rationalizations or be fooled by distractions.

Our new millennium strategy is to pray the Black KKK goes away or ignores us. How’s that working?

About as well as the attempt to shift attention away from this uniquely African-American crisis by focusing on an alleged injustice the white media allegedly perpetrated against Sean Taylor.

Within hours of his death, there was a story circulating that members of the black press were complaining that news outlets were disrespecting Taylor’s victimhood by reporting on his troubled past

No disrespect to Taylor, but he controlled the way he would be remembered by the way he lived. His immature, undisciplined behavior with his employer, his run-ins with law enforcement, which included allegedly threatening a man with a loaded gun, and the fact a vehicle he owned was once sprayed with bullets are all pertinent details when you’ve been murdered.

Marcellus Wiley, a former NFL player, made the radio circuit Wednesday, singing the tune that athletes are targets. That was his explanation for the murders of Taylor and Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams and the armed robberies of NBA players Antoine Walker and Eddy Curry.

Really?

Let’s cut through the bull(manure) and deal with reality. Black men are targets of black men. Period. Go check the coroner’s office and talk with a police detective. These bullets aren’t checking W-2s.

Rather than whine about white folks’ insensitivity or reserve a special place of sorrow for rich athletes, we’d be better served mustering the kind of outrage and courage it took in the 1950s and 1960s to stop the white KKK from hanging black men from trees.

But we don’t want to deal with ourselves. We take great joy in prescribing medicine to cure the hate in other people’s hearts. Meanwhile, our self-hatred, on full display for the world to see, remains untreated, undiagnosed and unrepentant.

Our self-hatred has been set to music and reinforced by a pervasive culture that promotes a crab-in-barrel mentality.

You’re damn straight I blame hip hop for playing a role in the genocide of American black men. When your leading causes of death and dysfunction are murder, ignorance and incarceration, there’s no reason to give a free pass to a culture that celebrates murder, ignorance and incarceration.

Of course there are other catalysts, but until we recapture the minds of black youth, convince them that it’s not OK to “super man dat ho” and end any and every dispute by “cocking on your bitch,” nothing will change.

Does a Soulja Boy want an education?

HBO did a fascinating documentary on Little Rock Central High School, the Arkansas school that required the National Guard so that nine black kids could attend in the 1950s. Fifty years later, the school is one of the nation’s best in terms of funding and educational opportunities. It’s 60 percent black and located in a poor black community.

Watch the documentary and ask yourself why nine poor kids in the ’50s risked their lives to get a good education and a thousand poor black kids today ignore the opportunity that is served to them on a platter.

Blame drugs, blame Ronald Reagan, blame George Bush, blame it on the rain or whatever. There’s only one group of people who can change the rotten, anti-education, pro-violence culture our kids have adopted. We have to do it.

According to reports, Sean Taylor had difficulty breaking free from the unsavory characters he associated with during his youth.

The “keepin’ it real” mantra of hip hop is in direct defiance to evolution. There’s always someone ready to tell you you’re selling out if you move away from the immature and dangerous activities you used to do, you’re selling out if you speak proper English, embrace education, dress like a grown man, do anything mainstream

The Black KKK is enforcing the same crippling standards as its parent organization. It wants to keep black men in their place — uneducated, outside the mainstream and six feet deep.

In all likelihood, the Black Klan and its mentality buried Sean Taylor, and any black man or boy reading this could be next.

My Hunt for a Nintendo Wii

November 23rd 2007

I have recently found out that the Nintendo Wii console is not an easy thing to buy. If you go on Ebay the going price for a new Wii (sports pack) is in the mid $400 range. There are a few used ones out there (Amazon and Ebay) but they are in the mid to high $300’s. All the local, major chains (Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc.), where the purchase price should be $250, would be easy but of course EVERYONE is out of stock. Then, I go to shopping.com and any online store with a Wii has it at a minimum of $530. That is just crazy.

I fell like Ahab…”Hast thou seen the White Whale Wii”. I cannot find one of these bad boys anywhere, to save my life. What is funny though is that my son, who I’m trying to buy this for, doesn’t even really want this. He insists that a PSP would be better but a 7 year old who has lost a gameboy, 6 of 12 gameboy games, and 2 backpacks just isn’t a good candidate for a $200 handheld.

Power Glove

This search may be me just reliving my child hood again. I remember one Christmas that I wanted the Power Glove. That glove was a piece of trash but I had to have it. So maybe if I find one I should just turn around and sell it for $150 more than I paid for it like everyone else on EBAY? Anyway, I plan to sit out front of Circuit City Sunday morning and try to get a voucher. They usually get in about 10 a week and on Sunday they give out vouchers (first come, first served) an hour before they open. Anyone with one is guaranteed a Wii.

Glassbooth.org - Tool for the “Lazy” Voter or Innovative Way to Access Political Information

November 11th 2007

Whenever I find something online I like to give credit where credit is due. I found a site called KillerStartups where they go out and review different “start-up” sites on the net. They have a rating system similar to Digg where users can rate how they think a site will perform. Anywho, one of their reviews was for a site called Glassbooth.

Glassbooth.org

Glassbooth gives you an independent assessment of where you stand with all the 2008 candidates. I love sites like this because you just answer the questions on the issues and then you can see how your answers stack up to all the different people in the race. I took this right off of their “about” page:

Glassbooth is a nonprofit organization that is creating innovative ways to access political information. An informed and interested democracy is a powerful thing. As an organization acting in the public’s interest, we are very serious about our core principles:
Integrity

All information used in the Glassbooth process is of the highest accuracy and integrity. No process is perfect though. Please get involved and shoot us an email if you want to add or comment on any of our content.
Nonbias

We believe Glassbooth’s success is contingent on nonbias in our process. We have worked closely with partners and experts to insure our language is in no way misleading. Again, feel free to email us with suggestions as to how we can improve.
Nonpartisan

Glassbooth does not affiliate with any political party, political organization, or ideology…we can’t and we won’t.
Transparency

All information used by Glassbooth will be available for the public to view and scrutinize. We are not Google…we want you to know why your results are delivered the way they are.
Insight

Glassbooth is always learning and adapting to how people are using media and interacting with information. We are constantly adding new features to the site so check back often.

One feature that I really liked about the site is that you can look at every issue for each candidate and see their stance for that issue. There is also a link to the transcript/article when they said it. I was actually pretty surprised on where I thought different candidates were on a position (e.g. I didn’t know McCain flip-flopped on abortion…he was originally pro-choice but now he is pro-life). Overall, I thought is was a good information site. Check it out and see where you stand. Later on in 2008 I may post how my survey turned out but I will say I lined up with the candidates. I will say I had a mixture of both parties have the highest comparison to me @ 70%.
